Instance

An instance defines the area to be processed and includes all objects captured in the scan. The scanned area can be cropped in the next steps. A clear name (e.g. following internal naming conventions) and location ensure unambiguous identification throughout the process.

Coordinate System

After processing, the mesh objects generated by RIIICO retain the exact coordinates captured in your scan. Please ensure your scanning data uses a coordinate system that matches your requirements, and indicate this by selecting the corresponding option, as it affects accuracy and alignment.

Site coordinate system

A Site Coordinate System (SCS) is a fixed, real-world reference for your building or site. It ensures that all scans from the same location share the same spatial origin and orientation.

Choosing SCS allows you to:

  • avoid rotation, drift or distortion

  • be able to consistently align multiple scans

  • align scans with existing CAD or BIM systems, or integrate with GIS data

  • work accurately across large areas or multiple floors

  • update scans regularly and detect changes without manual alignment

Provides the highest spatial accuracy; generally recommended.

No coordinate system alignment

Choose no coordinate system alignment if:

  • a site coordinate system is unavailable, outdated, or incorrect

  • working with a standalone area

  • no cross-system alignment or precise geographic reference is needed
