Crop Scan

What cropping does

Cropping defines which part of the scan will be processed. Only the area inside the bounding box is included; everything outside is permanently excluded.
The scan is cropped by adjusting the size of the bounding box around the point cloud.

Impact on processing costs

Processing costs are based on the complexity of the scanned objects and the processed area. Cropping can reduce costs, but it also results in permanent data loss.
Cropped areas cannot be restored without reprocessing the entire scan, so only clearly irrelevant sections should be removed.

Vertical cropping risks

Special care is required when cropping vertically. Elevated elements such as roofs, pipes, ducting, or steel structures are easily overlooked but crucial for some use cases.
Removing these elements reduces data completeness and can limit future use.

Recommended approach

Processing the full scan provides the most complete and flexible dataset and helps avoid reprocessing later. Cropping is recommended only when certain parts of the scan are definitively not needed.
